Electric And Hybrid Ford Vehicles

Electric And Hybrid Ford Vehicles

This year alone, we have seen more electric vehicles released into the market than combined in the past 10 years. Fortunately, this remarkable shift we are seeing is only the beginning as more people are taking a serious look at all the benefits electric vehicles can bring. Thankfully, drivers who want to trade in their gas vehicles for electric or hybrid vehicles have many options to choose from in the current Ford lineup.

Is Electric right for you?

There are multiple reasons why you might be considering the switch, but a few of the most common include fuel savings and reducing maintenance costs. Most people are familiar with the Battery Electric Vehicle, or BEV, an all-electric vehicle. BEVs generally have larger batteries, a stronger electric motor, a charge port, and regenerative braking. Ford only produces the Mustang Mach-E at the moment; however, the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning will be joining the roster later this year. You can expect a host of new features from the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning, such as Ford Intelligent Backup Power, Enhanced Pro Power Onboard, BlueCruise, Power My Trip, and Intelligent Range.

Hybrid Electric Vehicles are powered by an electric motor and gasoline engine. Hybrids will generally use the electric motor to conserve gasoline when moving at slower speeds, while the gas engine will kick in when accelerating or using more power. The fuel systems in Hybrid vehicles are pressurized to keep fuel fresh and decrease emissions. And just like Electric vehicles, Hybrids use regenerative braking to drive power to the larger battery pack. Ford has a large selection of Hybrid vehicles, including the Escape Hybrid, F-150 with PowerBoost, Explorer, and the new 2022 Ford Maverick, boasting a standard 2.5L Hybrid drivetrain starting as low as $25,900 + HST and licensing.

Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) are similar to standard hybrid models. When the battery of a PHEV is depleted, they act as a traditional hybrid vehicle. For example, the Ford Escape can travel up to roughly 60 kilometers on electric power alone. However, most PHEVs have a longer range than Electric vehicles because they contain larger batteries and require a plug to allow you to charge it to full capacity. At a level 1 charge, the Ford Escape PHEV will take around 11 hours to fully charge or 3 hours for a level 2 charge.

Overall, your next vehicle purchase should be based on your lifestyle needs. The Ford Explorer Hybrid is the perfect family vehicle that combines maximum space and fuel efficiency. If you need a capable workhorse for those big and tough jobs, the F-150 Lightning or F-150 with PowerBoost can help you make the switch to electric with ease. When versatility and comfort rank high on your list, Ford Escape or Ford Maverick are great options for electric vehicles.
